Job Description
The Equipment Maintenance Technician will report to the Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor and support the efforts of the technical and production teams in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and repair various mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment and systems involving the isolation of malfunctioning parts, disassembly of equipment, and repair/replacement of faulty components
- Perform regular inspections to identify and correct equipment malfunctions, repairs, and replacements
- Sharpen blades for cutting equipment
- Analyze root causes of equipment failures and propose corrective actions
- Help assemble, test, and maintain company equipment
- Undertake precision alignments and significant other tests associated with installation, qualification, and/or calibration of equipment and machinery
- Perform accurate documentation of results of alignments and calibrations
- Read and understand equipment operations and maintenance manuals
- Use equipment manuals, technical documents, and internal and vendor resources to aid in troubleshooting and repairing tools and equipment
- Propose improvements to enhance equipment reliability and performance
- Carry out design, development, and implementation of preventative maintenance programs on machinery and mechanical systems
- Undertake actions such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, etc. on equipment for preventive maintenance purposes
- Update and review daily maintenance logs
- Operate various hand and power tools and machines to discharge duties
- Apply computer programs to track and update jobs and service requests
- Safely operate forklifts, man-lifts, and equipment, adhering to safety standards
- Ensure that equipment are in a safe and working condition and utilize the Lock-Out Tag-Out program
- Follow all safety policies and procedures
- Ensure the application of Quality Policies and Procedures in all aspects of daily duties and responsibilities.
- Ensure prompt and regular attendance following a schedule
- Actively participate and support the evolution of Vartega’s Health, Safety and Environmental management system
- Assist Principal Manufacturing engineer in developing design narratives, bills of material, and requests for proposals to source manufacturing solutions
- Assist Principal Manufacturing Engineer in developing and improving production processes to produce high-quality consistent materials
- Assist Principal Manufacturing Engineer in specifying new systems and improving existing equipment to reduce maintenance downtime and equipment failures
- Assist Principal Manufacturing Engineer in collaborating with other company stakeholders responsible for Production and Quality to ensure that equipment is operating effectively and efficiently
- Assist Principal Manufacturing Engineer in addressing production bottlenecks via automation and material handling to increase machine uptime and production output
- Assist Principal Manufacturing Engineer in working with external stakeholders to ensure that vendors and contractors are staying on schedule and on budget
- Assist Facilities Manager with facilities maintenance and upgrade activities
- Assist Facilities Manager with production support and warehousing activities
- Assist in the Implementation & sustainment of continuous improvement efforts.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or related technology field, a skilled trades certificate, or equivalent from a two-year college/technical school (preferred)
- 2 years of industrial equipment maintenance or related experience (with a degree/certificate) OR 5 years of experience (without a degree/certificate)

Physical Requirements:
- Able and willing to wear personal protective equipment for prolonged periods of time that enhance personal health and safety in environments containing dust, loud noise and/or mechanical objects
Preferred Education and Skills
- Has worked in manufacturing, plastics, composites, food & beverage, or pharmaceutical industry.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, experience with Google Suite
- Forklift Experience
- Training in lean manufacturing, SixSigma or other manufacturing methodology
- History of proven success implementing Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S principles and practices
