Role and Responsibilities
The Manager of Environmental, Health, and Safety will continue to develop Vartega’s EHS strategy and will be responsible for its implementation through policies, procedures, and culture development. This role will ensure compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, while concurrently developing and driving an EHS strategy that positions Vartega as a world-class manufacturing company.
In addition to EHS leadership, the Manager of Environmental, Health, and Safety will have the opportunity to contribute to the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. These may relate to sustainable manufacturing, supply chain, and life cycle management, as well as social, community, and the company’s overall long-term CSR-focused initiatives.
Daily duties will vary but may include any of the following activities:
- Maintain Vartega’s Corporate Environmental Health & Safety program
- Demonstrate commitment to an Incident-free Environment through own actions and mentoring others
- Guide and document compliance with all environmental health & safety regulatory requirements
- Coordinate the preparation, review, and approval (as appropriate) of EHS-related regulatory submissions
- Collaborate with human resources and legal counsel for EHS-related activities
- Manage worker’s compensation cases and maintain OSHA recordable process
- Interface with external safety, environmental, or compliance authorities
- Establish, track, and report EHS key performance indicators
- Partner with Vartega’s leadership team to develop, implement, and provide training to meet company safety standards
- Facilitate the Safety Committee to engage employees in a culture of safety
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action / Preventive Action (CAPA) events
- Work with internal and external resources to track and maintain compliance and continued improvement for Vartega’s ISO and GRS program
- Contribute to the Management of Change process as it applies to the identification and mitigation of EHS-related risks
- Work with other departments to perform risk assessments of new processes or procedures
- Engage with the vision, mission, and values of Vartega and emulate this culture within the company’s work environment
Requirements
- Experience in proactive EHS leadership role; identifying gaps, setting targets, and cooperating with staff from other departments to achieve targets
- Proficiency with federal and state EHS regulations
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, safety management, industrial hygiene or related field OR equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to walk through facilities for extended periods
- Capable of wearing required PPE
- Valid driver's license
- 0-10% travel
- Primary work environment is facility-based with regular floor presence
Preferred Education and Skills:
- 5 years of EHS-related experience
- Industrial Hygiene technical skills including collection of area and personal samples related to airborne contaminants, noise and ventilation assessments.
- CSP or CIH certifications or path towards certifications
- Proficiency in Excel, Word and other Microsoft products and Google Workspace
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001
- Familiarity with GRS
