What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Referral Coordinator position at Vascular and Vein institute of the South?
The Vascular and Vein Institute of the South is seeking a full time, referral coordinator to manage new patient referrals and intake.
Candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, be detail oriented, focused and able to work independently with minimal supervision. You will be responsible for communicating with and scheduling new patients referred to the clinic. The ideal candidate takes initiative to complete tasks and communicates well with referring clinical staff, patients, and coworkers.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides assistance to new patients seeking medical care including: responding to telephone inquiries, assistance filling out patient forms, acquiring information about insurance coverage, accurately registering the patient, and verifying information.
- Assures accurate and timely collection of data entry of all required patient demographic, insurance, and all related information.
- Ensures all paperwork is completed accurately by patient and/or referring doctor's office and is attached to their medical record.
- Communicates with patients to schedule appointments according to scheduling guidelines, frequently making appointment reminder calls, and sending out reminders.
- Communicate with nurses and clinic staff at referring clinics and hospitals via phone, fax and electronic messages.
- Maintain new patient data spreadsheets and records.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA regulations.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and referring clinic staff.
- Performs end of day functions and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience in a medical office or other healthcare setting preferred but not required, must have customer service experience
- High School graduate, some college coursework preferred
- Working knowledge of computer applications: word processing, excel, office
- Well developed written and oral communication skills
- Ability to accurately record and transmit detailed information
- Demonstrates understanding of customer service principles
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred
- Knowledge of health insurance carriers is preferred
