Summary Of Role

The BSA/AML Investigator assists in maintaining the Bank Secrecy/Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Program to ensure that the bank achieves optimum compliance with all areas of the Bank Secrecy act. This position provides quality control such as Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA Patriot Act, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and OFAC. Key result areas include: BSA reporting requirements; suspicious activity detection; BSA recordkeeping requirements; watchlist monitoring requirements; bank staff support, training, and awareness.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently review transactional data to detect, report and prevent suspected financial activity. Utilize an Anti-Money Laundering (AML) case management tool to monitor, research and analyze trends. Utilize independent decision making for the potential filing of SARs and CTRs completed in a timely manner.
  • Identify and review high risk and moderate risk customers. Conduct regular reviews of transaction activity for high, moderate, and low AML risk customers. Detailed documentation is required. Scheduled follow-up on any irregularities that come from newly opened accounts identified.
  • Independently review, analyze, and investigate Watch List alerts related to OFAC and 314(a). Complete the 314(a) biweekly reviews.
  • Completion of CTR filings, reviewing potential shortfalls in documentation provided by front line staff and provide adequate feedback to address those shortfalls.
  • Understand and maintain a thorough knowledge of government regulations with particular emphasis on Bank Secrecy Act and related regulations, policies, procedures, industry best practice, criminal activities and developing trends; including BSA, USA Patriot Act and OFAC.
  • Assist BSA Officer in conducting periodic assessment of the banks department for BSA/AML/OFA/CIP compliance.
  • Assists during all periodic BSA/AML compliance reviews.
  • Must comply with applicable regulations including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Knowledge & Skills

Experience

Minimum 2 years of experience in BSA/AML and/or Fraud

Education/Certifications/Licenses

College degree preferred.

Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others onmatters of significance.

Communication skills. BSA/AML Investigator must explain their work to executives and audit personnel. Ability to provide clear instructions to team members and/or other departments. Clear and Concise communication is warranted.

Organizational skills. Effectively manage time in order to prioritize tasks that warrant immediate attention due to regulatory deadlines. Attention to detail in all areas to ensure work is free from errors.

Business skills. The ability to accurately estimate work, plan, schedule, and coordinate activities related to job responsibilities.

Problem-solving skills. BSA/AML Investigator must identify and urgently report any risk or serious concerns to Sr. Management.

Decision Making skills. BSA/AML Investigator must make important decisions about how to leverage and allocate resources. An understanding of the context and business climate where changes are being made.

Physical Requirements

Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising the highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
