Job Qualifications & Responsibilities
Summary Of Role
The Small Business and Consumer Analyst will conduct independent and objective analysis based on customer's financial information, by setting a standard of consistency for consumer financial analysis. Responsibilities include (but not limited to) underwriting all small business and consumer loan request, reviewing online loan request, ordering all consumer related title work, appraisals, and monitoring for compliance. Acts as a resource for information regarding loan decisions, customer loan inquiries, lending products and services. Responsible for approving or denying loans within limits as defined and providing the highest quality of service to the customer.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Receives customer loan requests from Retail Branch Managers and Commercial Loan Officers.
- Evaluates and underwrites loan requests using judgement and discretion in making decisions to satisfy the customer’s needs.
- Position will require in-depth analysis of tax returns/financial information for borrowers.
- Loans outside of guidelines or approval parameters are escalated through the approval process, with a recommendation as to the loan decision for each loan.
- Responsible for ordering title work and appraisals on all consumer real estate loans; as well as sending all disclosures to the customer in compliance with all regulations.
- Responsible for communicating loan decisions to Retail Branch Managers and/or Loan Officers, including the ability to discuss loan denials, loan alternatives and rate computation in a clear, concise and courteous manner.
- Obtains and evaluates credit bureau reports, income documentation, collateral valuation reports, flood certifications, title information, and other factors relevant to the underwriting of consumer loans.
- Completes post-closing loan follow-up activities, including balancing billings for mortgage insurance, credit reporting agencies, flood certifications, and title reviews.
- Assist in underwriting small commercial loans.
- Ensure that loans are well documented and conform with bank's loan policy. Develops forms and loan analysis tools, as required, for loan officers to improve workflow and file documentation efficiency.
- Analyzes and reviews appraisals and environmental reports of real estate to be used as collateral.
- Ensure that loans are well documented and conform with banks loan policy.
- Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Knowledge & Skills
Experience
- 2-5 years in banking, 1 year minimum of consumer lending experience.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- A high school degree or GED is required.
Interpersonal Skills
A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with Loan Officers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.

Physical Requirements
Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in a climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
