Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Marine Engineer to ensure the maintenance and operational readiness of Vatn Systems' testing vessel fleet. You will play a critical role in maintaining propulsion, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems, as well as supporting field operations for underwater vehicle testing.
Key Responsibilities
Vessel Maintenance and Repair
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on vessel propulsion, electrical (AC & DC), plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system malfunctions, including hydraulics, pumps, and onboard auxiliary systems.
- Conduct emergency repairs as needed to minimize downtime.
Testing Support
- Prepare vessels for testing missions, including system checks and operational setup.
- Assist in deploying and recovering underwater vehicles and equipment during trials.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure vessels adhere to safety protocols and maritime regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and participate in drills with crew members.
Inventory and Documentation
- Maintain an organized inventory of tools, spare parts, and consumables.
- Record maintenance activities, repairs, and system updates in detailed logs.
- Provide status reports on fleet readiness and identify areas for improvement.
Collaboration and Training
- Work closely with engineers, technicians, and testing teams to align vessel capabilities with operational needs.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Associate degree or certification in Marine Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 2 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing marine vessels or related systems.
Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of propulsion, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems in marine vessels.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and repair techniques.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and under time-sensitive conditions.
- Familiarity with maritime safety standards and regulations.
- Welding skills are a bonus.
Certifications
- STCW Basic Safety Training certification (preferred).
- Relevant technical certifications in marine systems or mechanics (preferred).
