JOB TITLE: Enrichment Assistant – STEM

STATUS: Hourly, Part-Time, up to 29 hrs/wk

CAMPUS: Mainland (4th-5th)

REPORTS TO: Curriculum Coordinator

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Vaughn Next Century Learning Center (“Vaughn”), located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Since the early 1970s, low student achievement had been a pattern. In 1993, tired of being helpless and hopeless, Vaughn became the first conversion charter school in the nation and was authorized by LAUSD. The charter was renewed most recently in 2018. Vaughn has over 25 years of experience as a successful independent charter school serving the district’s low-income students. This previously failing elementary public school is now a full-service, community-based, K-12th charter school that assures all students are college/career ready, digitally literate, and globally competent. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the site Director, Curriculum Coordinator or Lead Teacher the duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assists teachers in the development and implementation of lessons that will expose students to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

• Provides instruction and assistance to students in the use and application of computer aided learning and instructional software.

• Supports students in accessing and effectively using computer resources, such as online platforms and Google Suite.

• Ensures the upkeep of the lab and its equipment, including cleaning, organizing, storing, and shelving materials.

• Manages equipment, supplies, inventory, and ordering for the STEM Lab.

• Handles preparation and clean-up tasks for scheduled lab classes.

• Supervises and monitors children in both indoor and outdoor settings.

• Implements classroom procedures

• Supports educational program through-out the school day

• Participates in all school emergency and safety plans

• Supports all children in all learning activities

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma Or GED equivalent

• 48 semester units/60 quarter units or pass a pre-employment test with a grade of 70% or better

• Proof of current college enrollment if Bachelor’s degree not yet earned

• Proficient in reading, writing, and math

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with STEM, VEX Robotics

• 1-year experience working with students in a school setting

• Able to establish and maintain professional working relationships

• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS

• $19.00 – $23.00/HR. (No Degree)

• $26.00 - $30.00/HR. (w/Bachelor’s Degree)

• $31.00 - $36.00/HR (w/ Master’s Degree or Credential)

• 29 hours per week

• 195 Work Days per year

• Paid sick time accrual

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Upon receiving an offer of employment: 

• Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan) with the Department of Justice (DOJ) 

• Must provide a Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) clearance within 60 days of employment

• Will be assigned mandated state training to be completed prior to the first day of employment
