Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Medical Healthcare Underwriter to join our Underwriting team in Phoenix, Arizona. This role is integral to evaluating and assessing healthcare insurance risks, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and optimizing underwriting strategies to enhance profitability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare underwriting, sharp analytical skills, and an in-depth understanding of healthcare insurance products, regulations, and risk assessment methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and analyze healthcare insurance applications to determine risk levels and pricing accuracy.
- Implement and uphold underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines to maintain consistency and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with internal teams (actuarial, claims, and sales) to refine underwriting strategies and drive profitability.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging healthcare risks to adapt underwriting practices as needed.
- Conduct underwriting audits to ensure adherence to best practices and quality control standards.
- Develop strong relationships with brokers, agents, and reinsurers to support business objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical/healthcare underwriting or related experience.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare insurance products, underwriting principles, and regulatory frameworks.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing risk selection and pricing strategies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities for cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience with David Young/ESL and Claros Advisor is a plus.
- Professional certifications such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) or ARe (Associate in Reinsurance) are a plus.
