Veterinary Assistant

VCA Edgewood Animal Hospital is looking to expand its team with an Experienced Veterinary Assistant!

VCA Edgewood Animal Hospital is located in Cedar Rapids, IA, and has been a pioneer in the veterinary community for over 50 years! We are proud to be AAHA accredited and practice Low-Stress Handling and several of our associates our Fear Free Certified.

Schedule: Full-time opportunities available, 4 x 10 hour shifts

What You’ll Do:

As an Experienced Veterinary Assistant, you will be a vital part of our patient care team, assisting our veterinarians and supporting our clients and patients through a range of responsibilities, such as:

• Preparing patients for examination and treatment, including taking vital signs and performing basic assessments
• Providing compassionate care, handling, and restraint for patients
• Assisting in surgical preparation, monitoring, and recovery
• Performing lab tests and diagnostics
• Managing pharmacy duties, including filling prescriptions and client education
• Maintaining a clean and organized work environment, ensuring medical equipment is properly sterilized and functioning

Who We’re Looking For:

We’re seeking a Veterinary Assistant who has experience working in a clinical setting and can demonstrate the following skills:

• Proficiency in patient handling, particularly with Low-Stress Handling techniques
• Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic procedures, and basic veterinary medicine
• Ability to support veterinarians in a wide range of medical and surgical procedures
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to client education
• An understanding of safe, compassionate animal restraint practices
