Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Caretaker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal welfare and the ability to provide high-quality care for various species. This role is essential in ensuring the health and well-being of animals in our facility, while also supporting veterinary staff and maintaining a safe environment for both animals and caretakers.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, grooming, and exercising.
- Monitor animal behavior and health, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.
- Assist veterinary technicians with medical procedures and administering medications.
- Maintain cleanliness of kennels, cages, and common areas to ensure a hygienic environment.
- Utilize proper animal restraint techniques during handling and examinations.
- Support veterinary critical care efforts as needed, including assisting in emergency situations.
- Engage in animal husbandry practices to promote the overall well-being of animals.
- Document daily activities and observations in accordance with facility protocols.
- Educate visitors about animal care practices and responsible pet ownership.
- Rotating weekend feed and walks (Sunday - Saturday)
Requirements
- Experience in dog handling or working with various types of animals is preferred.
- Knowledge of animal physiology and behavior is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with kennel operations and veterinary assistant duties is a plus.
- Skills in animal restraint techniques are essential for ensuring safety during care.
- Understanding of equine care is beneficial for those working with horses or similar animals.
- A strong commitment to animal welfare and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Ability to lift moderate weights and perform physical tasks associated with animal care.
