What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Assistant- Pediatric Dentistry position at VCU Dental Care?
Chief Purpose of the Position
As a Dental Assistant with VCU Pediatric Dentistry, you will support all aspects of the clinical care of patients within our clinic. Delivery of care will include, but is not limited to, preparing the treatment room, the patient, and instruments and materials; performing procedures in compliance with the dental clinic and/or task delegated by the treating dentist, attending faculty dentist, dental resident, or students. Other functions include sustaining patient comfort, managing supplies, listening to patients’ needs and educating them on oral health care, working efficiently to maintain doctors’ schedules, and adhering to all OSHA and safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required
- Familiar with dental treatments done daily: prophy, sealants, fluoride treatment, crowns (stainless steel, nu Smiles and strips) RCT, composite, flowable, fugi, etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Working knowledge of dental terminology required
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment is required
- Excellent customer service skills and willingness to assist patients, students, residents, faculty and other staff.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment
- Ability to perform 4-handed dentistry
- Ability to actively listen and anticipate patient needs
Education level and experience required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CPR certification, preferred
- X-Ray certification, required
- CDA preferred
- Bilingual, preferred
- Pediatric dental experience preferred
- Two years of previous dental assistant experience required
Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience
