What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Services Representative - Predoctoral Clinic Operations position at VCU Dental Care?
Chief Purpose of the Position
The Patient Services Representative serves to perform the following duties: registration, financial support, insurance processes, and scheduling appointments for patients of VCU Dental Care's Student Practice, and also plays a role in the educational experience of D.D.S. students. Primary responsibilities include scheduling and registration of new patients, obtaining and verifying insurance policy information, checkout procedures including accepting payments and assisting students with coordination of appointments. The role also includes routine financial consultations with patients (reviewing treatment plans, estimating insurance costs, offering payment options), assisting patients in applying for third-party credit, and counseling students on ethical and efficient financial practices and patient disputes. The Student Practice is a high-volume, fast-paced practice serving a diverse population.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- Knowledge of dental terminology preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish)
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Excellent customer service skills and willingness to assist patients, students, faculty, and staff
- Ability to work independently and well as a team player
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to multitask
- Flexible work schedule for varying shifts between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm
- Ability to work in a diverse environment is required.
Education level and experience required:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- College education strongly preferred
- Minimum 1-3 years experience in a medical or dental office setting is required
- Customer service experience required
- Accounts receivable and/or insurance verification or coordination preferred
- Windows-based computer and data entry skills required
- Experience in dental software and knowledge of CDT codes preferred
- Bilingual preferred
