Mission or Goal of Unit : Pursue the Research, Clinical, and Education Missions of the academic medical center in the areas of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care. Through bench research, clinical trials and the rigorous study of prevention and control, our scientists pursue the many roles of medicine in treating, preventing and controlling the adverse effects of cancer. Our hallmark activity is translational research, where our physicians and scientists work to bring laboratory discoveries to the patient bedside as quickly and safely as possible. Through our training programs, our faculty train the next generation of scientists and physicians to further advance science and practice.
Chief Purpose of this position : This position will have a role in Leading the Palliative care program / Section. This position will have a role in advancing the clinical, research, and teaching missions and will be expected to work collaboratively with other members of the department and Massey Cancer Center.
Position Responsibilities :
Teaching | Trains medical students, residents and fellows while in the clinic and on the inpatient service.
Research | Reasonable scholarly activities, such as publications, presentations at national meetings and participation in appropriate academic organizations, are expected as well as active participation as a scientific member of the department and Massey Cancer Center.
Service | It is expected that the person in this position will be active in decreasing health disparities in the community served by Massey / VCU.
Clinical | Attends on the inpatient wards and consult service, and / or sees patients in the outpatient clinic with a focus on supportive care.
Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.) | Serves as the section chief of palliative care, medical director, palliative care, and program director of the hospice and palliative medicine fellowship.
Required Qualifications :
- Board certified or eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
- Eligible for Virginia licensure
- Evidence of accomplishment during medical school, residency, fellowship, and academic career and leadership experience within an Academic Palliative Program
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
