Chief Purpose of this position : The Division of General Internal Medicine is seeking a General Internist to join an outstanding group of clinician educators. The Division provides comprehensive evidence-based care to a diverse patient population that spans all levels of complexity. This faculty position provides an opportunity for outpatient clinical care in the Internal Medicine Womens Health practice, which provides comprehensive primary care to female patients. The position also allows for significant clinical teaching of Internal Medicine residents, if desired by the candidate. The successful candidate will have an interest in developing a career as a superb clinician educator. The Division is well positioned to support a range of clinical and academic interests.
Position Responsibilities :
Teaching :
- Supervise and teach housestaff in the resident outpatient practice (if part of desired duties)
- Supervise and teach learners (including medical students, interns, and residents) on the inpatient housestaff teaching service (if part of desired duties)
- If working on the inpatient teaching service, conduct daily teaching rounds that use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice
- Demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher for learners at all levels
- Complete required evaluations of learners in a timely mannerincluding but not limited to written and verbal feedback
- Participate in other learning activities such as morning report, core conference, and other formal educational programs for undergraduate and post-graduate learners
Research : Participate in clinical and educational research, according to skills, interest, and funding (research opportunities may include performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations)
Service : Work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health
