What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Vice President, Neuroscience Service Line position at VCU Health?
The Associate Vice President (AVP) for the Neuroscience Service Line (NSL) is responsible for partnering with the Chairs of Neurology and Neurosurgery and VCU Health System, VCU Hospital, Practice Plan and School of Medicine Leadership in establishing the NSL and advancing strategies, including integration of the education research and community engagement missions, into NSL operations. The AVP of the NSL is accountable for the strategic direction and growth, finance and fiscal responsibility, clinical and service performance, and operations of the Neuroscience Service Line under the joint direction of the VP of Service Lines and the Chairs of the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery.
Essential Job Statements :
1) Strategic Direction and Growth
- Responsible for leading the development of the NSL in partnership with the Chairs of Neurosurgery and Neurology and other key stakeholders.
- Identifies new clinical programs consistent with market opportunity, patient need, financial feasibility. and the geographic market.
- Develops business plans and implements once approved to support the NSL and is accountable for successful implementation per timelines established in the plan.
- Works collaboratively with VCU Health System Leadership to align service line development with institutional priorities and strategy.
- Works collaboratively with the clinical departments, School of Medicine and other University stakeholders to ensure integration of research and education missions into NSL operations.
- Reviews capital projects before submission to VCU Health System.
- Monitors outcomes of strategic initiatives, providing data on return on investments (ROI) and utilizing performance improvement principles to address opportunities of concern.
- Collaborates across the Health System and University to ensure coordination of services and provision of on-going communication related to NSL activities, outcomes and needs.
- Maintains knowledge of NSL future trends and innovation to support transition into new strategic initiatives.

The Associate Vice President for the Neuroscience Service Line has a unique and highly-valued working relationship with VCUHS and Departmental leadership. Flexibility in an evolving, complex system; working with VCUHS leaders and within the communities we serve. Budgeting, Hiring, Coaching, Mentoring, and Managing. Demonstrated ability to act with independence of thought, high energy and urgency required to be effective in fast paced environment. Demonstrated ability to partner with functional leaders to inspire and motivate people at all levels to achieve technical, operational, and executional excellence. Microsoft office proficiency (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Financial Management software such as Strata); excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred :
Experience working for senior level executives or administrators in a complex health care system including in-patient and ambulatory services. Flexibility and availability during non-work hours for assistance with the Neuroscience Service Line.
