What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diabetes Educator - Pediatric Endocrinology position at VCU Health?
The Diabetes Educator provides Diabetes and Self-Management Education/Training (DSME/T) to patients with diabetes, including but not limited to: Type 1, Type 2, gestational and steroid-induced diabetes according to the existing standards of care.
Education includes, but is not limited to: signs/symptoms and respective treatments for hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis), HHNK (Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic non-ketoacidosis) and sick day therapies.

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) or CDCES eligible within 18 months of employment and applicable clinical licensure required by the State of Virginia: a clinical psychologist, registered nurse, occupational therapist, optometrist, pharmacist, physical therapist, physician, podiatrist, master certified health education specialist, certified clinical exercise physiologist, registered clinical exercise physiologist, registered dietitian, dietitian nutritionist, or registered PA, with current, active and unrestricted license, certification or registration OR a minimum of a master’s degree in social work from a United States college or university accredited by a nationally recognized regional accrediting body

Certification as a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) required within 18 months of date of hire and applicable clinical licensure required by the State of Virginia: a clinical psychologist, registered nurse, occupational therapist, optometrist, pharmacist, physical therapist, physician, podiatrist, master certified health education specialist, certified clinical exercise physiologist, registered clinical exercise physiologist, registered dietitian, dietitian nutritionist, or registered PA, with current, active and unrestricted license, certification or registration OR a minimum of a master’s degree in social work from a United States college or university accredited by a nationally recognized regional accrediting body
Experience REQUIRED:
1-3 years’ experience in teaching DSME/T
Experience PREFERRED:
2-5 years’ experience teaching DSME/T in an academic medical setting
Education/training REQUIRED:
