What are the responsibilities and job description for the MLS Student Worker – Blood Gas Lab – Various hours position at VCU Health?
The Student Worker provides accurate and timely testing and results to requesting physicians and other healthcare professionals for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease under the guidance and supervision of a Medical Technologist.
The Student Worker should consistently utilize excellent customer service skills to both internal and external customers at all times. A positive and professional interpersonal style with a strong commitment to the team effort is mandatory.
Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Hire
Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (preferred)
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: N/A
Experience REQUIRED: N/A
Experience PREFERRED
Previous clinical experience laboratory
Education/training REQUIRED
Currently enrolled and in the 3rd year of an accredited Bachelor Degree Program in Clinical Laboratory Science Program or
Currently enrolled in Masters Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science
Education/training PREFERRED
Associates Degree in Clinical/Medical Lab Science Program
Independent Action(s) Required
Performance of procedures, evaluation and reporting of results as outlined in the manual of standard operating procedures.
Notification of panic values to ordering physicians.
Customer service oriented communications.
With supervision participate in teaching new employees, students, residents, etc. in areas that competency is demonstrated.
Must complete required number of continuing education hours per year.
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A
Additional Position Requirements
Rotating weekends as required
Holiday scheduling as required
On call availability, approximating 3-4 shifts per month, for emergency coverage on any shift
