The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner.
Progressive Care Medicine is a 28 bed, telemetry unit with 16 progressive care beds, specializing in providing quality care to patients under the Hospital Medicine Service for a variety of complex medical diagnoses including infectious disease, respiratory disorders, acute renal and liver dysfunction. With exceptional teamwork, we strive to provide the best evidenced-based care to our patients. This unit is seeking energetic, compassionate, and safety-focused nurses to join our team.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire : N / A
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment :
AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
Experience REQUIRED : N / A
Experience PREFERRED :
Acute care experience as a nursing assistant or aide experience
Education / training REQUIRED :
Completion of state recognized CNA program; or
Completion of first semester junior year in an accredited BSN program dependent upon school curriculum. VCU / MCV BSN students - completion of sophomore year, Nursing 201, 202, 261.
Accredited Associate Degree and Diploma programs - completion of first year or a minimum of two semesters of basic nursing courses. Specialty areas e.g. pediatrics, women`s health, psychiatry may require completion of a clinical rotation in that area; or
Completion of EMT program; or Completion of medical assistant program; or
One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years; or
One (1) year of care partner or equivalent work experience within the last three (3) years; or
One (1) year of military corpsman experience within the last three (3) years
Education / training PREFERRED : N / A
Independent action(s) required :
Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and / or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy / procedure.
Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor : time / schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and / or contact with medications and related supplies.

Additional position requirements :
Care Partners work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager / Practice Manager.
Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and / or as needed.
