What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sterile Processing Tech Lead - Central Sterile Processing - Various hours position at VCU Health?
This position is responsible for departmental oversight in the absence of the Central Sterile Supervisor. This job orients and trains new employees. This job also acts as the technical resource on processing and sterilization.This position ensures reusable medical/surgical supplies and equipment are cleaned and decontaminated by means of cleaning processes and chemical disinfection and packaged and sterilized using sterilization guidelines to meet the needs of all clinical and surgical units.
Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Hire
Certification as a Registered Central Sterilization Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Surgical Tech certification (CST or TS-C or CORT)
Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Continued Employment
Current CRCST, CSPDT, CST, TS-C or CORST certification
Experience REQUIRED
Minimum of two (2) years of central sterile experience to include:
The principles of sterilization, infectious disease transmission, infection control and all other aspects of steam sterilization (including decontamination, inspection and packaging of items to be sterilized, sterilizing procedures, equipment operation and safety precautions)
Worker safety as it relates to medical device processing and sterilization
Experience PREFERRED
Previous experience operating specific steam sterilizing system used by the health care facility
Education/training REQUIRED
High School Graduate or equivalent See above
Education/training PREFERRED
Completion of the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) curriculum
Independent Action(s) Required
Follows OSHA and JCAHO guidelines.

Oversees department in the absence of supervisor.
Orients and trains new employees.
