Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the VCU Division of Transplant surgery is to both provide a nationally ranked, advanced, patient-oriented, cost-effective and safe transplantation surgical services and sciences, as well as to create the finest training environment for the region’s future transplant specialists. The current environment increasingly mandates leading both regional and national quality initiatives in transplant surgery. Chief Purpose of this position: We are seeking candidates for the Division Chief for Transplant Surgery. The candidate would have a national reputation and a proven track record of leading key programs. They should be a master surgeon with unique skills in an area such as transplant liver or kidney surgery. Responsible for setting goals for research and innovation in the science of transplantation biology including organ preservation and xenotransplantation. This is a key leadership role within the department of surgery for a marque program of international reputation and within the VCU Hume Lee Transplant Center. Position Responsibilities: Teaching | Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in transplant surgery fellows, general surgery residents as well as medical and undergraduate students. Must be able to mentor transplant fellows with graded surgery responsibilities.Research | Clinical research and trial participation is preferred. Opportunities for intramural and extramural funding will be explored with a goal towards extramural funding. Collaboration with basic science faculty in Surgery, Hume Lee Transplant Center and School of Medicine will be encouraged. Clinical | Candidate should be experienced surgeon in the field transplantation surgery and will be expected to maintain a practice as a member of the VCUHS medical staff. Service | Faculty member will serve on departmental, College, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc. Their clinical responsibilities may be extended to a shared time between VCU and VA Medical Centers. - Current medical license in Virginia or eligibility to obtain one
