The postdoctoral fellow will conduct experiments with genetically engineered mice using behavioral, molecular, and cellular techniques. These include immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, microscopy, quantitative real-time PCR, basic molecular cloning techniques, drug administration and tissue dissection. The postdoctoral fellow will analyze data, write manuscripts for publication, assist with grant submissions, and prepare scientific presentations to be presented internally and externally. Other job responsibilities include but are not limited to: ordering supplies, monitoring and disposal of biohazardous materials and chemical hazards, organization of the laboratory environment, and training undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory.Core Responsibilities:

- Designing and conducting experiments in the laboratory
- Writing manuscripts and preparing presentations
- Training undergraduates and graduate students in the laboratory
- A PhD in pharmacology, biochemistry, neuroscience, molecular biology, cell biology or related biological science is required
- At least 4 years of experience performing ethanol-related behavioral experiments with mice, such as ethanol consumption
- Experience with mouse brain tissue immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy
- At least 3 first-author publications in the field of neuroscience or pharmacology
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- Experience with molecular biology techniques, such as quantitative real-time PCR
- Experience with mouse surgery
- Knowledge of safe laboratory practices
