Mission or Goal of Unit: 

The mission of the VTCC, CHoR and the Department of Pediatrics is to improve the mental health of children and families through clinical care, research, education and public awareness.

Chief Purpose of the Position:

The Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with the Children's Hospital of Richmond and the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a faculty member in its Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division. The psychologist will be expected to provide clinical services, conduct research and research related activities, teach, supervise, and develop programs focusing on neonatal intensive care (NICU).

 Teaching:  Teaching and supervision of trainees from psychology, social work psychiatry and pediatrics.

Scholarship:  Reasonable scholarly activities, such as program evaluation, research, publications, presentations at national meetings and participation in appropriate academic organizations, are expected.

Service:  Serve on CHoR committees, SOM committees, committees within VTCC and the Department of Pediatrics (Neonatal Medicine) to enhance and promote the service needs and policy making functions of the university and hospital.

Clinical:  Provide diagnostic assessments and psychotherapy to children, adolescents and families with inpatient and outpatient settings in the NICU and Neonatal Follow Up clinic.  Clinical work includes individual, family and group therapy.

Research: Academic research development and regional service to enhance the regional neurodevelopmental care of families and infant graduates in neonatal medicine and teaching and support of neonatal fellowship program and faculty and staff of the NICU.    

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent with training in clinical psychology
  • Experience in providing in-patient and outpatient program development related to neonatal critical care and neurodevelopmental follow-up programs of high-risk infants
  • Current licensure or eligibility to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as completion of an APA approved pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral training with a focus on pediatric psychology with neonatal medicine expertise
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Research, program evaluation or publications 
  • Experience as a clinical supervisor and/or teacher/mentor
  • External research support or likelihood of being able to obtain funding
