Chief Purpose of this position: The VCU School of Medicine is seeking applicants for a tenure eligible research professor who will have an academic home in one of our Basic Health Science Departments based on the candidate's education, training and experience. This faculty position will support both the teaching and research missions of the department by pursuing research initiatives, teaching our students in our graduate programs and mentoring both students and junior faculty.
Position Responsibilities:
- Faculty member will be responsible for teaching in the graduate school in area of expertise, mentoring graduate students and post-doctoral fellows and supporting the educational programs in the School of Medicine and the Graduate School
- Faculty member will be responsible for development of research protocols related to their area of specialization within the department; application for external grant funding is expected. Collaboration across various SOM department is encouraged
- Faculty member will serve on various departmental, school or university committees as requested by department chair and are aligned with their expertise. Service with national professional organizations and committees is encouraged
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in microbiology or immunology or closely related field
- Track record of successful external grant funding
- Extensive publication history in peer reviewed journals/organizations
- Extensive experience with mentoring graduate students and post doctoral fellows
- Experience working in an academic medical center environment
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
