Summary
The School of Nursing is seeking a Research Coordinator (RC), who is bilingual in English and Spanish, for an hourly position on the NIH-funded “Mindful Moms Study”. The RC will lead activities for community engagement about the study with Spanish-speaking communities around central Virginia. The RC will be engaged in recruitment, enrollment, and support of participants, particularly those who are Spanish-speaking. The RC will attend all of the Spanish-language Mindful Moms community-based classes (typically held on weekday evenings or weekends) and may also be present for the English-language classes, in order to support the teachers and participants at the classes. The RC will assist the team in areas such as communications (e.g., coordinating with community partners, communicating with community organizations and clinicians, recruiting in obstetric clinics and at community events) and other duties as assigned. The RC may be asked to assist in other studies in Dr. Kinser’s lab, as needed. Variable hours, likely to include evenings and weekends. Reliable transportation is a must, given that most activities occur off-campus in communities around greater Richmond/central Virginia.
Typical Duties
Recruitment, Enrollment, Retention, and Data Collection
- The bilingual RC will be responsible for leading efforts in community engagement in Spanish-speaking communities around central Virginia.
- The RC will be involved with recruitment, enrollment, tracking, and data collection, particularly with but not limited to Spanish-speaking individuals.
- The RC will attend community events on a regular basis, engaging with community members about the study.
- The RC will engage in recruitment activities at obstetric clinics.
- The RC will engage in retention efforts, including regular communication with research participants.
- The RC will be responsible for helping the team meet monthly recruitment and retention goals.
Communication and Support
- The RC will engage in various forms of communication about the study.
- The RC will engage in effective communication with community partners, community organizations, social media outlets, potential and current research participants, and teachers in the study.
- The RC will provide support to the teachers delivering the study classes in the community, which will include being available on evenings and weekends.
- The RC will assist the research team with preparation of knowledge dissemination products.
- RC will assist the research team with other duties as assigned.
- The RC may also assist with other studies in Dr. Kinser’s lab, as needed.
Minimum Hiring Standards
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- High school degree/ GED
- Demonstrated ability to work with an interprofessional team and community members
- Reliable mode of transportation and/or driver’s license, as many events/visits occur off campus in the community of greater Richmond/ central Virginia
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule that includes working evenings and weekends
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards
- Evidence of effective communication and outreach with community members, community organizations, or similar
- Working knowledge of Zoom, Microsoft suite (e.g., Microsoft word, excel, and PowerPoint) and common
- Google applications (e.g., Gmail, google calendar, drive, & sheets)
- Experience in women’s health and/or research fields
- Experience working with underserved communities
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare-related field or Community Health Worker certification
