Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Cassandra Database Administrator (DBA) with expertise in DataStax Cassandra (DSE) to join our team. This role involves managing and maintaining Cassandra clusters across production, staging, and development environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. The ideal candidate will proactively monitor systems, handle backup and recovery procedures, automate operational tasks, and collaborate with development teams for data optimization. A strong focus on documentation, capacity planning, and incident management is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Cluster Management:
- Install, configure, and maintain DataStax Cassandra (DSE) clusters in production, staging, and development environments.
- Monitoring:
- Monitor cluster performance, addressing issues related to latency, throughput, and node health
- Backup and Recovery:
- Perform robust data backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Security Implementation:
- Implement and manage security policies, authentication, and authorization in Cassandra environments.
- Maintenance Tasks:
- Conduct routine maintenance, including patching, upgrades, and performance tuning, to optimize cluster performance.
- Collaboration with Teams:
- Work closely with application development teams to optimize data models, queries, and data access patterns.
- Capacity Planning:
- Analyze and execute capacity planning and cluster expansion efforts to meet growing demands.
- Automation:
- Automate operational tasks using tools like Ansible and scripting languages to improve efficiency.
- Incident Management:
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for production support, incident response, and root cause analysis to minimize downtime.
- Documentation:
- Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures to support team operations and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong experience managing and maintaining DataStax Cassandra (DSE)
- Proven skills in performance monitoring, backup and recovery procedures, and security management within Cassandra environments.
- Hands-on experience with tools like Ansible for automation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for root cause analysis and incident management.
- Ability to work independently and in teams, particularly in high-pressure situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with advanced capacity planning and cluster optimization techniques.
- Strong scripting skills for operational task automation.
- Experience collaborating with development teams to improve data models and queries.
- Certification in Cassandra database administration or relevant expertise.
- Proficiency in documenting technical processes clearly and effectively.
