Job Title: Information Management System & Database Administrator Location: Frisco, TX ( Hybrid )
Duration/Term: Long Term Contract
Job Summary:
Seeking an experienced IMS Database Administrator to manage and maintain IMS database systems, optimal performance, and data integrity. The ideal candidate will be responsible for database administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, recovery processes, and team coordination across distributed environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Administration: Maintain IMS database systems, ensuring high availability, integrity, and performance.
- Debugging & Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve issues with DBMS system utilities and IMS software.
- IMS Sysplex & Datasharing: Manage IMS Sysplex environments, handling data sharing and transaction processing.
- IMS System Management: Perform various IMS restarts (COLD, WARM, ERE) and manage IMS SYSGEN processes.
- Recovery & Logging: Handle IMS Database Recovery Control (DBRC), RECON datasets, and logging processes (OLDS, SLDS, WADS, RLDS).
- Performance Optimization: Analyze and fine-tune database performance using IMS monitoring tools.
- IMS Upgrades & Maintenance: Manage IMS software upgrades and apply patches using SMP/E.
- Disaster Recovery: Lead annual disaster recovery exercises and ensure business continuity.
- Team Leadership & Coordination: Manage small teams, coordinate multiple tasks, and work with geographically distributed teams.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: 10 years of experience in IMS database administration and system management.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in IMS, JCL, TSO/SDSF, JES2, SYSVIEW, SMP/E, and database tuning techniques.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with IMS utilities, command codes, checkpoint-restart logic, and secondary indexing.
