Summary: The Controller will lead our finance and accounting operations. The ideal candidate will be confident, decisive, willing to execute the detailed work, capable of ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, maintaining robust internal controls, and supporting strategic decision-making. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, experience managing the controls environment, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to driving financial performance and process improvements. As a strategic partner to a public company, the applicant must be intimately familiar with accounting best practices (general ledger, AR, AP, inventory, fixed assets, and payroll) and adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls.
Essential Functions:
- Manage and lead the accounting department, ensuring efficient and effective operation, and adherence to accounting standards.
- Prepare, manage, and present periodic (individual and consolidated) financial statements and reporting packages in compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing insights and recommendations based on thorough financial analysis.
- Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure accuracy of all inter/intracompany transactions, allocations, and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Coordinate and manage external audits, providing necessary documentation and ensuring timely completion.
- Support compliance with government and corporate legal requirements, advising management on necessary actions.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
- Conduct financial and variance analyses and provide strategic insights to support decision-making.
- Establish strong relationships and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Operations, other departments, cross-functional teams, banks, vendors, etc.).
- Mentor and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Serve as an active participant in strategic planning activities, providing financial expertise and contributing to the company's long-term goals.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, including analyzing WIP (work-in-progress) and ensuring proper control over project costs.
- Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by senior management.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Active certified public accountant (CPA) designation
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar role with a national, high growth company. 5 years of public accounting and 2 years of private accounting experience preferred.
- Excellent Excel skills and proficiency in using financial software and ERP systems.
- Solid understanding of tax regulations and experience in filing sales tax returns is preferred.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong emotional intelligence, leadership, team development and management skills.
- Exceptional communication and people skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Meticulous and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
