What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Inspector position at Vector Talent Solutions?
SUMMARY:
The Quality Inspector will apply and monitor established inspection procedures and methods to ensure that production output and incoming materials meet or exceed documented specifications. They need to understand and interpret symbols, tolerances and complex specifications on drawings and on other procedures using various tools, gages and equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and offer constructive criticism relative to variables and deviations from prescribed standards of quality.
- Conduct part inspections on incoming materials and/or in-process materials and finished goods.
- Able to conduct and document First Article Inspections and capability studies using various MT&E.
- Record and report discrepancies following internal processes.
- As assigned and trained, operate CMMs and VMMs in accordance with training guidelines and instructions received.
- Expedite and follow up on procedural changes and inspection applications.
- Develop, prepare and implement new quality procedures subject to approval of Quality Assurance Manager.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Create and Manage Non-Conformance Records.
- Be able to become ASQ Certified Quality Inspector with in the first year. This includes taking an ASQ certification test on the following subjects:
- Must know basic quality terms, definitions and concepts.
- Must know basic statistical terms and techniques, how to plot data and how to recognize out-of-control conditions.
- Must know the definition of PDCA and understand the team concept.
- Must understand types of measurement, measurement terminology and the different types of measurement scales.
- Must know the difference between accuracy and precision and be able to select the appropriate measuring tools and techniques.
- Must know how to measure using surface plate layouts.
- Must be able to identify/recognize inspection errors and initiate resolution.
- Must have basic calibration knowledge.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and know definitions of critical, major and minor characteristics.
- Must have a general knowledge of ASME Y14.5M, working knowledge of GD&T, and must understand the x, y, z coordinate system.
- Must be able to use inspection planning tools and perform a product audit; determine sample size for lots; pull random samples.
- Must have knowledge of testing methods.
- Must be able to identify and report nonconforming material.
- Must understand traceability (product, material and calibration).
- Must have a strong knowledge of basic mathematical operations and perform measurement conversions; be able to solve for x; add and subtract degrees, minutes, and seconds
CORE SKILLS:
- Demonstrated analytical thinking skills with high attention to detail and consistency.
- Solid user knowledge of quality testing protocols.
- Ability to read and understand work instructions, manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Works well as both a productive member of a team and individually.
- Intermediate ability in mathematics, reading, and writing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office or related software as necessary to complete logs or records.
- Strong ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) testing results to multiple audiences.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or vocational school graduate.
- Minimum six plus months experience in quality assurance and control techniques, product reliability and test laboratory procedures.
- ASQ Certified Quality Inspector certification or willingness to become certified.
- Demonstrated positive attendance record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sitting, standing, walking, climbing and stooping.
- Prolonged periods performing repetitive tasks.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
Must wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
