Description

Vedder Price is looking for an eDiscovery Supervisor, based in our Chicago or Dallas office. The eDiscovery Supervisor must have a broad background and proven track record for using strong interpersonal and technical skills and knowledge to liaise between and consult with both non-technical and technical audiences including attorneys, clients, and vendors regarding technical solutions and services in eDiscovery throughout the EDRM and also experience in structured data analysis. Day-to-day eDiscovery duties involve management of individual projects/cases within time and budget constraints and serving as lead team member on fast-moving matters involving eDiscovery. Data analysis duties involve consulting with legal teams and clients about structured data to be sent to the Firm, quality checking structured data upon receipt, cleaning structured data, analyzing data pursuant to legal team needs, quality checking data analysis work and related reports, and supervising and otherwise providing leadership to the interdepartmental data analysis team. The eDiscovery Supervisor also fills in as an escalation point for the eDiscovery Manager when they are unavailable or additional supervisory assistance is otherwise needed. This position is a firmwide eDiscovery resource.

As the eDiscovery Supervisor, your job duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Manage, coordinate, consult and advise in all aspects of the eDiscovery process on individual projects on a day-to-day basis. Includes leading client technology calls; recommending preservation, collection, and review strategies, methods, and workflows; monitoring case-specific eDiscovery budgets and expenses; data analysis and use of analytical tools especially with respect to Relativity administration; and processing, production, and presentation of ESI
  • Maintain eDiscovery-related defensibility documentation on individual projects
  • Distill granular and/or structured data into high-level information; develop, present, and implement solutions to eDiscovery-related technical challenges
  • Manage vendors and other technical resources in support of matter specific eDiscovery needs
  • Provide assistance as needed to other team members
  • Ensure requirements and deadlines are defined and met for all phases of eDiscovery projects including preservation, collection, processing, hosting, production, and presentation
  • Manage most aspects of eDiscovery projects with limited supervision
  • Ensure proper implementation of quality control measures on project deliverables using internal procedures and systems, focusing on timeliness, quality, accuracy, and completeness
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and supervision for structured data analysis team and related projects, including quality control, training, and support
  • Develop, present, implement, and train others on solutions to technical challenges related to eDiscovery and data analysis, including normalizing, cleaning, and analyzing data
  • Provide supervision and guidance, and serve as an escalation point for structured data collection, extraction, cleanup, interpretation, and analysis
  • Collaborate with vendors and other technical resources to define and address data analysis needs
  • Find patterns and trends in structured and unstructured data
  • Prepare risk assessments and liability analysis for clients and legal teams
  • Develop automated processes and create new solutions to improve overall accuracy and efficiency
  • Master technologies, practices, and procedures used by the eDiscovery Department and other departments' data analysis roles
  • Ensure proper implementation of quality control measures on project deliverables using internal procedures and systems, focusing on timeliness
  • Manage communications (both oral and written) with an expectation that all communication must be clear and concise
  • Assist with and/or lead special departmental projects as needed
  • Serve in Lieu of the eDiscovery Manager as an escalation point and/or provide guidance and supervisory support for the eDiscovery Department when the Manager is unavailable

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong fundamental understanding of computer systems and technologies
  • Familiarity with a wide range of non-legal technologies, from networks to email to structured databases
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and software troubleshooting skills
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques (e.g. data cleaning and normalization
  • Substantial knowledge of early data assessment and processing software and procedures
  • Ability to identify and implement solutions to technical challenges in an eDiscovery context
  • Familiarity with paper scanning concerns
  • Ability to multitask and reprioritize work while under pressure
  • Understanding project management fundamentals

Qualifications & Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Paralegal background or certifications in project management, eDiscovery, computer forensics, or structured data analysis are a plus
  • At least 8 years of project management experience in litigation or eDiscovery support is essential and required
  • Experience with eDiscovery processing and production applications and workflows required
  • Remote technical support of trials is a plus
  • Ability to travel if needed
  • Must be able to work after hours as needed
  • Position also requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in the following software:

  • Strong proficiency with MS Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Strong proficiency with at least one of MS Excel, PowerBI, Power Query, and/or R (including big data management, dashboards, pivot tables, charts, etc.)
  • Extensive experience with administrative functions in Relativity and/or other modern, web-based eDiscovery review and processing applications (Everlaw is a plus)

Compensation Range: $120,000/yr. to $145,000/yr.
