Community Organizer

Compensation/FLSA Classification: 65,000 per year
Reports To: Maryn Formley, Executive Director & Founder
About VEEEM Pittsburgh: The Voter Empowerment Education & Enrichment Movement (VEEEM Pittsburgh) is a faith-based, nonpartisan, community organization dedicated to increasing voter turnout in Allegheny County. We propel people to the polls by engaging and educating potential voters in advance of elections for local, state, and federal offices.
Who You Are: We are seeking a community-centric individual who believes that voting matters. The ideal candidate is one who can help influence potential voters. This is a management level role and will have up to 3 direct reports.
Position Overview: The Community Organizer is the primary staff member responsible for overseeing the integrated voter engagement program at VEEEM Pittsburgh. The Community Organizer is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with communities and partners in Allegheny County, with a specific focus in Homewood, East Hills, and surrounding neighborhoods.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Organizing
- Lead the implementation of the Integrated Voter Engagement Plan and participate in integrated voter engagement workgroup sessions.
- Provide direct supervision to all program staff members. Participate in staff meetings and biweekly coaching calls.
- Maintain relationships and ensure compliance with all grant requirements from the PA Fellowship. Must participate in all trainings: workgroup sessions, monthly cohort trainings(online or in person), and partnership meetings. Note: In person trainings may require travel throughout Pennsylvania.
- Ensure ongoing excellence in operations, adhering to funder requirements, orchestrate program evaluations, monitor quality control, utilize reporting systems, and participate in debriefs. Provide updates on program activities and services to the Executive Director, funders, and partner organizations.
- Establish effective tracking systems to monitor progress and regularly evaluate program components, measuring successes that can be effectively communicated to funders and the Executive Director.
- Create resources to educate the community about the election process and candidates in Allegheny County. Utilize reporting systems and participate in debriefs
- Oversee the phone and door Vote by Mail and Get Out the Vote activities for registered voters.
Community Engagement
- Ensure ongoing excellence in local program operations, complying with funder requirements and VEEEM Pittsburgh performance standards. Implement rigorous program evaluations and maintain consistent quality in finance, administration, communications, and information systems.
- Recommend necessary timelines and resources to achieve strategic goals.
- Strengthen services and funding relationships with the PA Fellowship to meet or exceed grant goals and objectives.
- Regularly update the Executive Director on progress, needs, and activities.
- Establish clear communication systems with local programming staff.
- Assist in the organization newsletter and other digital communications as needed.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners, VIP coalition, civic and social organizations, and youth advocacy organizations.
- Oversee the phone and door Vote by Mail and Get Out the Vote activities for registered voters.
- Recruit and retain members/volunteers.
Performance Expectations:
Success in this position will look like:
- A robust voter registration campaign that yields 500( ).
- Completed organizational goals for integrated voter engagement plan: Get Out the Vote, Voter Registration, and Vote By Mail campaigns.
Qualifications:
- Education - Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred
- Experience - 2 years field experience preferred (Field experience includes roles where the candidate has engaged with community members including but not limited to canvasser, organizer, community outreach coordinator
