Job Description
Job Description
Title : Systems / Storage Engineer - Data Center
Location : Austin, TX (onsite from day 1)
Duration : Long Term
Role Overview
Seeking a Data Center Engineer to manage, optimize, and scale mission-critical infrastructure, including HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, Impala, GPU, and enterprise storage environments (Isilon and NetApp). This role is integral to ensuring high availability, seamless integration, and top-tier performance across data center operations. The engineer will work on hardware deployment, upgrades, performance tuning, troubleshooting, automation, and security enforcement, while also driving improvements in system efficiency and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
This role involves managing the lifecycle of high-performance compute clusters, storage solutions, and virtualization platforms through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization. The engineer will assess storage capacity, cluster health, and node performance, ensuring infrastructure reliability while minimizing downtime.
Using Impala Insight IQ, NetApp ONTAP, OneFS monitoring tools, and SNMP / Grafana dashboards, the engineer will diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, hardware failures, and network issues across HPC, Kubernetes, GPU, and storage platforms. Expertise in log analysis, system debugging, and throughput optimization is essential for maintaining seamless operations.
The role requires hands-on involvement in hardware upgrades and node replacement, ensuring proper integration and compatibility across the Isilon and NetApp storage landscape. The engineer will also oversee firmware and software patching, testing updates in a controlled environment before deployment to production systems.
In addition to core operational tasks, the engineer will play a key role in automating routine processes, leveraging tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and Python to streamline monitoring, data migration, and system maintenance. As part of long-term infrastructure strategy, the engineer will lead capacity planning initiatives, identifying growth trends and designing scalable solutions that align with business needs.
Security and compliance are critical aspects of the role, requiring enforcement of data protection policies, access controls, and best practices across all managed environments. The engineer will also coordinate with security teams to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and threat mitigation strategies.
Data center responsibilities will include racking and cabling servers, configuring network and power settings, and executing hardware installations. The engineer will maintain detailed documentation on system configurations, operational procedures, and troubleshooting best practices while providing technical training and mentorship to internal teams.
