This role will oversee production in our paint and body department.
About Us
Velocity produces restomod restorations where classic vehicles are upgraded with modern parts, drivetrain, and technology making them functionally new while maintaining an original or vintage aesthetic. The company has pioneered a custom classic vehicle renovation via an assembly line process, ensuring a high level of quality control, with a known price, and significantly decreased build time. We have a talented team of 130 employees and a 135,000 square foot facility in Cantonment, Florida where we are continuing to add additional production lines and new vehicle offerings.
Overview
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the production assembly line to ensure operational efficiency, product quality, and adherence to safety standards. This role involves managing production schedules, coordinating workflow, supervising staff, and identifying opportunities for process improvements to enhance productivity and control costs.
Success in this position requires exceptional leadership skills, a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to effectively manage resources in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Duties and Responsibilities
Department Oversight :
- Manage and mentor a team of paint and body technicians to meet production goals and uphold quality standards.
- Foster a collaborative, safety-conscious, and performance-driven work environment.
- Conduct regular team meetings to communicate expectations, provide feedback, and address challenges.
- Review and correct employee time punches and payroll reports.
Operational Oversight :
Oversee scheduling and workflow to ensure timely project on-time completion.Interview, hire and performance manage a team of paint and body technicians.Maintain, enforce, and improve standard operating procedures, ensuring consistency and accuracy.Properly schedule and execute warranty vehicle timelines for timely return to customersDevelop and manage detailed production schedules for assembly, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget, utilizing as little overtime as possible.Oversee multiple stations simultaneously, coordinating closely with other departments such as metal fabrication. paint and body, upholstery, and parts procurement to maintain workflow efficiency.Stay updated with the latest industry techniques, materials, and equipment related to classic vehicle restoration and make recommendations for departmental improvements.Must be on call evenings and weekends to respond to calls, texts, and time sensitive emails.Metrics and Reporting :
Track labor hours and material usage to monitor efficiency and budget adherence.Record, maintain, and improve departmental performance metrics, including productivity, costs, and quality standards.Prepare, maintain, and present scorecards to executive leadership for review and strategic decision-making.Cost Management :
Manage department budgets by tracking material costs and implementing cost-saving initiatives.Collaborate with procurement to source high-quality materials within budget constraints.Work closely with our supply chain department on inventory, ensuring sufficient stock while maintaining cost control and high-quality standards.Vendor Management and Quality Assurance :
Collaborate with internal departments as well as outside vendors to address quality issues and ensure timely resolution, including pushing back on substandard deliveries to maintain project standards.Required Skills and Abilities
Automotive enthusiast with knowledge in the automotive or manufacturing industry.Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including assembly, machining, and quality control.Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.Proficiency in production planning and scheduling software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.Knowledge of health and safety regulations, with experience implementing safety protocols in a manufacturing environment.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed to support production operations. This is not a 40 hour per week position.Valid drivers license and reliable transportation to work.Background check and pre-employment drug screening required.Education Background and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.Bachelor's degree in engineering, management, or other related field preferred.Proven experience in automotive or aircraft manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.Physical Demands (To include but not limited to)
Prolonged periods of standing or walking around the workspace.Frequently lifting heavy objects, such as tools, parts, or equipment, weighing up to 50-75 pounds.Regularly bending, stooping, or crouching to work on vehicles at different heights.Moving large or heavy equipment, carts, or vehicles within the shop.Precise manipulation of tools, small parts, and diagnostic equipment.Frequent use of fingers and hands for typing, writing, and operating a computer.Using telephones, printers, copiers, and other office tools.Frequent need to focus on printed or digital material.Reviewing documents, schedules, or customer data with accuracy.Exposure to loud noises from power tools and machinery.Working in non-climate-controlled environments, leading to exposure to heat or cold.Potential exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals like solvents, oils, and paints. Proper PPE is often required.Analyzing and troubleshooting mechanical or structural issues.Frequent reaching above the shoulders or below the waist.Maintaining physical activity throughout the day without fatigue.Adherence to safety protocols to avoid injuries from sharp tools, heavy objects, or moving vehicles.Safely operate a motor vehicle.Benefits Include
