A Derrick Hand is responsible for working in the uppermost section of the derrick on a workover rig. They work high off the ground on the derrick, ensuring the smooth functioning and safety of the workover team.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring the condition on hand tools and other job essential items.
- Guiding and stacking sections of the tubing and rods.
- Performing regular maintenance on derrick equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and emergency response procedures.
- Assisting in rigging up and down workover rigs as well as transportation of workover equipment between locations.
- Inspecting the derrick before operations.
- Handling, sorting, and stacking tubing strings and rods.
- Performing maintenance on workover equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Education and Qualifications::
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in oil and gas drilling operations is highly preferred.
- Practical experience in a similar field or role is crucial.
- Certifications such as Well Control, Fall Protection, First Aid, and CPR may be required.
- Strong understanding of workover operations and equipment.
- Excellent physical fitness and agility due to the demanding nature of the job.
- Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Attention to detail and strong safety awareness.
