ADDICTION COUNSELOR
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:
Have one of the following active certifications:
- CSC-AD (Certified Supervised Counselor - Alcohol and Drug)
- ADT (Alcohol and Drug Trainee)
PURPOSE: Substance abuse counselor will be in charge of assisting patients through medical assisted programs and offering techniques for handling opioid addiction. Counselor conducts group sessions and individual sessions to assist with crisis management and coping strategies. Additionally, counselor will evaluate patients’ progress during therapy. Substance abuse counselors may also need to collaborate with doctors, nurses and therapists for patients’ therapy and treatment for best overall outcome.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Manage a caseload of up to 50 patients
- Conduct referral interviews and coordinate client admissions
- Communicate with placement agents as needed (calls, meetings, reports)
- Facilitate group counseling for addiction-related issues
- Provide family counseling and other support services as needed
- Offer individual counseling, including crisis intervention, treatment, and discharge planning
- Participate in staff training, meetings, and committees
- Document and review client progress
- Create, update, and complete treatment plans and discharge summaries
- Refer clients for educational, vocational, medical, legal, and recreational services
- Maintain accurate client records
- Ensure safety procedures are followed for patients, staff, and visitors
- Counsel clients and assess their readiness for changes in care level
- Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and contacts
- Analyze situations and take appropriate action
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
· Addictions, mental health issues, and issues relating to abuse and neglected adolescents
· The Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and/or Al-Anon
· Principles and techniques of individual and group treatment of delinquent, emotionally disturbed and chemically dependent youth
· Interviewing techniques and procedures
· Report writing
· Principles and practices of counseling
· Group counseling leadership principles and techniques
· Speaking and writing effectively
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
