Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work within a small company atmosphere with other marine engineers, naval architects, and designers to solve engineering challenges.
Projects will span all different types of vessels in the maritime industry, so the role will need to work with designs on ships, yachts, tugs, pleasure boats, passenger vessels, etc.,
Create engineering drawings and schematics for both new construction and refit projects
Design systems, route piping, and specify equipment appropriate for vessel type & service
Manage projects, including creating work scopes and schedules, communicating with clients, coordinating technical vendors, and attending project meetings
Manage the class and regulatory submittal, review, and approval process
Some travel and fieldwork will be required - engineers must be able to work safely aboard ships and in a shipyard environment, including climbing ladders and navigating walkways, gangways, and confined spaces
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Familiarity with machinery and systems aboard commercial ships, workboats, tug / barges, passenger vessels, and yachts
A working knowledge of ship building rules and regulations, as well as classification society and Coast Guard requirements
Propulsion and steering design knowledge
AutoCAD competency
Valid driver's license, passport, and TWIC card (or ability to obtain)
Currently able to work in the United States
Education & Experience
5 years' experience in the maritime industry with marine systems design
Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture; or
Bachelor's degree in Engineering WITH marine industry experience
Shipyard newbuild or repair engineering, construction, or project management experience
Experience with class and USCG submittal and approval process
2D / 3D piping systems and equipment arrangement and routing experience
Hydraulics, controls, and / or electrical knowledge
Shipboard ventilation and HVAC design and installation knowledge
Design experience relating to marine structures a plus
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate
USCG license and time sailing on license would be a strong consideration
Marine Structures knowledge and design would be a benefit, but not required
