SUMMARY
The Assistant Irrigation Technician assists in the operation and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system; to optimize playing conditions through correct water management. Will assist with mechanical repairs on a variety of gasoline and diesel power equipment; always keeps all equipment in efficient and operable condition.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains a preventive maintenance program on all equipment.
- Maintains records of preventative maintenance, repairs made.
- Maintains up-to-date working knowledge of light maintenance equipment and automotive apparatus. Skilled in the use of a wide variety of equipment repair tools.
- Helps diagnose mechanical troubles and schedules appropriate preventive maintenance work.
- Helps to control costs and expenses in the maintenance of the equipment fleet relating to parts purchases, inventory levels, service work, fuel inventories and related items.
- Inspects, adjusts, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects in many types of golf course maintenance equipment.
- Inspects systems oil changes and repair tires.
- Performs machining or welding work in making fittings used in repair of maintenance equipment.
Qualifications
Skills/ Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to apply basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to manage a wide variety of activities at the same time.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent education required.
- One -month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to physically reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to work under variable temperature conditions (extreme heat or cold, indoors/outdoors).
- Must be able to work around chemicals, dust, fumes and/or odor hazards.
- Regularly works in outdoor weather conditions and may face the risk of electrical shock or encountering fumes or airborne pathogens.
- Must be able to work in a loud environment and in areas near moving mechanical parts.
