Our firm is growing, and we are seeking to hire another experienced litigation paralegal to join our boutique, maritime law firm in Norfolk, Virginia. This position involves managing federal and state litigation in Virginia and North Carolina courts. Our firm is housed in a historic building in the quiet Freemason Harbor neighborhood, located on a cobble-stoned street just steps away from the Battleship Wisconsin, the Pagoda Garden, the Bute Street YMCA, Cure Coffeehouse, and downtown Norfolk. Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in federal court litigation and a thorough understanding of court rules and procedures.
1. Assist attorneys in all stages of litigation cases from onset through post-trial.
2. Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, document subpoenas and other legal documents.
3. Manage discovery.
4. Review, organize, and analyze complex legal documents, including depositions, discovery documents, and federal court filings.
5. Coordinate and manage federal court filings, including e-filing.
6. Assist in trial preparation, including witness preparation, trial exhibits, and trial binders.
7. Maintain case calendars and track deadlines.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Minimum of 4 years of experience as a litigation paralegal.
3. Extensive experience with federal court litigation.
4. Proficiency in legal research tools and e-filing systems.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
6. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
7. Strong computer skills and comfortable with technology
8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Requirements:
Typical Work Hours: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, M-F; very rarely on weekends
Expected hours: 35-40 per week
Work Location: In person at our law firm in Norfolk, VA.
Paid Time Off provided and 8 holidays observed; 401(k) after one year with 4% match, health/vision/dental available
