Hourly Rate: $22.96| $24.25 hr. after 90 day probation (Overtime and weekends may be required)
We are hiring for a Flex Shift position which will cover all three shifts where needed.
Shift: 1st Shift 6am - 2:30pm
Shift: 2nd Shift 2pm - 10:30pm | Shift Differential $0.40 hour
Shift: 3rd Shift 10pm - 6:30am | Shift Differential $0.50 hour
Job Summary
The Control Room Operator/ Pulp Processor works under the direction of the shift supervisor. The operator is responsible for operating a battery of JBT extractors which provide instantaneous separation of the constituent elements of the citrus fruit (oranges, lemons, grapefruit, and exotic fruits). The objective is to obtain the maximum possible recovery of juices and biproducts. In addition, the operator is responsible for the safe, efficient collection of citrus pulp using computer-controlled CIP and hand cleaning techniques.
Primary Responsibilities
- Food Safety is the responsibility of all Ventura Coastal manufacturing employees. All Ventura Coastal manufacturing employees must be aware of CCPs in their area and how to document them appropriately. All staff must report food safety and quality problems to their immediate supervisor in charge during their shift.
- Utilizes computer and manual controls to manage the movement of fruit from bins/unloading through the washing, sorting and extraction process.
- Responsible for the throughput of extraction equipment including finishers and pulp wash system to maximize juice recovery.
- Performs duties essential to extract juice, recover oil, peel, and pulp.
- Sets up, runs and monitors ACUS process for system CIP. Assists with manual cleaning of extractors and finishers upon completion of ACUS.
- Directs juice to processing area and the peel to the oil mill.
- Tracks extraction operating slow and downtime and other critical events.
- Operates pulp sterilizer using manual and computer-controlled settings.
- Tracks and records system operating and performance parameters and downtime using system logs or computer-based tracking system.
- Communicates clearly with supervisors, relief foremen, maintenance, debit/centrifuge operator, evaporator and oil mill, and ATF personnel as needed to maintain smooth and efficient operations.
- Pulls samples, monitors pulp quality parameters and makes appropriate system adjustments to maintain product specification.
- Always keep the area clean and sanitary.
- Assist in cleaning during ACUS's.
- Assist in dismantling equipment and cleaning the extractors and pulp sterilizers.
- Follow all safety rules and practices to include the wearing of all essential personal protective equipment.
- Follow all personal hygiene and food safety/quality practices.
- Act professionally towards customers, vendors or other visitors.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance, consistent punctuality and a positive attitude.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or group leader.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Basic computer skills such as the ability to operate a computer touch screen.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements
- The ability to lift 50lbs from floor to waist level and 50lb finisher cage from waist to shoulders.
- 80% standing, climbing ladders and stairs in a normal manufacturing environment which is often wet and slippery.
- 20% in a computer control room on the extractor platform.
- The ability to meet flexible and changing priorities and the ability to work under pressure is a must.
