THE POSITION: Under the general supervision of the supervising therapist, the incumbent plans, organizes, and implements rehabilitation programs in treatment and/or community services. We are seeking a candidate with experience in pelvic floor therapy to provide specialized care, ensuring effective treatment for patients with pelvic health conditions.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will possess exemplary customer service skills and will be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. They will also be skilled at time management, and will be willing to work with pediatric patients. Finally, they will be skilled at using critical thinking as they care for patients and interact with the public in order to provide the highest standard of care and service.
PAYROLL TITLE: Rehabilitation Therapist - Per Diem Pool IV
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Per Diem Pool classifications are distinguished from Regular classifications in that additional compensation is provided in lieu of full County benefits. Per Diem Pool assignments are scheduled flexibly or on an as-needed basis; therefore, incumbents are not guaranteed any specific number of work hours per biweekly pay period and may be called off if there is insufficient work to be performed during any assigned shift.
EDUCATIONAL/BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive. This incentive may be 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% for incumbents in eligible positions based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification. Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill.
AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency – Ambulatory Care
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Per Diem Pool vacancies for this position only. There is currently one (1) Per Diem Pool vacancy.
Rehabilitation Therapist IV is represented by the Services Employees International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
OPENING DATE: 2/24/2025
CLOSING DATE: 3/10/2025Duties performed are in accordance with the California licensure or certification standards and may include but are not limited to the following:
- Establishes functional goals in collaboration with the client and caregiver based on the physical therapy or occupational therapy evaluation;
- Selects, applies, and modifies therapeutic interventions;
- Upon physician referral, examines, evaluates, designs treatment plans to meet the physical and functional needs of clients;
- Confers and coordinates with a multidisciplinary team including the physicians directing care to coordinate all client rehabilitation needs;
- Provides patient and family education to assist in achievement of functional goals;
- Maintains current and appropriate documentation;
- Evaluates, recommends, and applies durable medical equipment, adaptive equipment, and splints based on the program eligible diagnosis;
- Therapists hired for the California Children's Services - Medical Therapy program participate in the IEP process and represent the Medical Therapy Program;
- Attends staff meetings, assigned clinics, and rounds as directed; and
- Performs other related duties as required.
These are entrance requirements to the exam process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE
A broad background consisting of education, training, and/or experience which would provide the knowledge and abilities to perform in the following areas:
Physical Therapy
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of physical therapy or proof of equivalency, plus two (2) years of physical therapy experience OR successful completion of an internship program with the hiring department or an equivalent training program and one (1) year of experience as a physical therapist.
- Possession of a current valid license as a Physical Therapist issued by the State of California OR must be eligible to apply for and obtain a valid California Physical Therapist license within the probationary period. Once obtained, a current valid California Physical Therapy License is a condition of continued employment.
OR
Occupational Therapy
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of occupational therapy or proof of equivalency, plus two (2) years of experience as an occupational therapist OR successful completion of an internship program with the hiring department or an equivalent training program and one (1) year of experience as an occupational therapist.
- Possession of a current valid license as a Occupational Therapist issued by the State of California OR must be eligible to apply for and obtain a valid California Occupational Therapist license within the probationary period. Once obtained, a current valid California Occupational Therapy License is a condition of continued employment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Some experience with pelvic floor therapy is required.
- Possession of a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate by date of hire. Once obtained, it is a condition of continued employment.
- Live scan fingerprinting may be required for some positions.
- Must possess the physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of:
- Therapeutic best practices as related to physical therapy/occupational therapy evaluation, intervention, and home programing;
- Sensory, social and physical development of children and the differences and needs of children with long term physical disabilities and their caretakers to assess and develop effective patient outcomes and patient management; and
- Understanding of pelvic floor anatomy, physiology, and common dysfunctions
- Departmental processes and procedures and individualized education plans.
Comprehensive knowledge of:
- The principles of human anatomy and physiology.
Ability to:
- Administer various types of physical therapy/occupational therapy treatment utilizing manual therapy techniques, exercise, equipment, etc.;
- Establish effective relations with patients, physicians, and fellow workers, and departmental processes and procedures;
- Commitment to continuing education and staying updated on advancements in pelvic floor therapy;
- Communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing; and
- Demonstrate exemplary customer services and implement services through a client centered care approach
