Position Purpose:
Provides day-to-day monitoring of equipment, routine lab test, and minor maintenance activities.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operates equipment manually and through instrument panels, computers terminals, and programmable logic controls units in an assigned area.
- Performs field test (chemical, physical and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages for process and odor control units or alter unit processes.
- Records observations and data in area shift log; diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective action; and communicates status, changes, and abnormalities in operating areas.
- Follows process control procedures for assigned areas; verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor.
- Operates vehicles such as trucks, forklifts, loaders, carts, etc. for plant operational purposes.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control.
- Must develop a working knowledge of the methods, techniques, principles, and practices of water/wastewater treatment.
- Ability to diagnose plant wide process problems and take remedial action, and to troubleshoot equipment.
- Requires good reading, math, writing, and verbal communication skills; a mechanical aptitude; and the ability to read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles, and other equipment.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Valid Driver's License and a safe driving record.
- Must obtain and maintain Rhode Island Class 1 wastewater certification within one year of appointment to Operator.
