Job Description:
We are seeking a highly independent and skilled Part-Time Gallery Assistant to help manage the operations of our online gallery. This role involves handling a variety of tasks, including shipping and packaging delicate artwork, professionally photographing pieces for the online store, data entry on online platforms and coordinating local pickups and drop-offs. The ideal candidate will have a strong appreciation for folk art, sculpture, and antiques, as well as the technical expertise to produce high-quality photographs using professional lighting equipment. A reliable car is required for this position, as it involves travel for pickups, drop-offs, and other tasks.
This is a part-time role with the potential to grow into a full-time position for the right candidate. We are looking for someone who is committed to long-term employment and eager to grow with our gallery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Photography: Professionally photograph artwork, sculptures, and antiques for the online store. Knowledge of studio lighting and equipment to ensure high-quality, accurate, and visually appealing images. Edit photos as needed for optimal presentation.
- Shipping and Packaging: Safely package a variety of artwork, including fragile sculptures and antiques, for shipment. Ensure all items are securely wrapped, labeled, and ready for delivery. Drop off packages at shipping facilities and coordinate with carriers as needed.
- Artwork Pickup and Drop-Off: Use your own car to pick up artwork from storage or designated locations. Deliver items to shipping facilities or other designated drop-off points.
- Online Store Management: Update the gallery’s website with new listings, including detailed descriptions, pricing, and historical or artistic context for each piece. Ensure the online store is organized. Knowledge of SEO is preferred, not mandatory.
- Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of inventory, including incoming and outgoing items. Track sales, shipments, and storage locations.
- Client Communication: Respond to customer inquiries about artwork, shipping, and purchases in a timely and professional manner. Provide exceptional service to collectors and art enthusiasts.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in photography, including experience working with studio lights, backdrops, and editing software (e.g., Photoshop, Lightroom).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially when handling delicate or valuable items.
- Ability to safely package and transport fragile artwork, sculptures, and antiques.
- Must have a reliable car and a valid driver’s license for local pickups, drop-offs, and other tasks.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with e-commerce platforms (e.g., Squarespace, Etsy, EBay, or similar).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with clients.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to long-term employment and interest in growing with the gallery.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in shipping, packaging, or handling delicate or valuable items.
- Knowledge of and/or experience working in the art or antique industry.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems.
Schedule:
- This is a part-time position requiring 2-3 days of work per week. Specific days and hours can be discussed during the interview process.
