The STNA Faculty, Classroom and Clinical Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality educational experiences to students enrolled in the State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) program in Ohio. The instructor provides both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical training, preparing students for the state certification exam and entry-level positions as nursing assistants. The instructor plays a critical role in fostering students' professional development, promoting a safe and effective learning environment, and adhering to both state and institutional regulations.
Classroom Instruction:
- Develop and deliver course content based on the approved STNA curriculum.
- Provide lectures, demonstrations, and learning activities that cover topics such as patient care, safety, ethics, and health conditions.
- Utilize multimedia tools and teaching strategies to engage students.
- Prepare and administer quizzes, exams, and practical assessments to gauge student learning and readiness.
Clinical Instruction:
- Supervise students in clinical settings such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, or nursing homes.
- Ensure that students follow proper procedures, including patient care, hygiene, feeding, and assisting with mobility.
- Demonstrate and coach students on performing basic nursing tasks like vital signs, bathing, and dressing patients.
- Evaluate students’ clinical performance and provide constructive feedback to improve their skills.
Student Support and Assessment:
- Assist students with academic advising, tutoring, and career guidance as needed.
- Conduct regular assessments of student performance through both practical and written examinations.
- Monitor student attendance, participation, and progress, ensuring compliance with the program’s requirements.
Program and Curriculum Development:
- Collaborate with other faculty and administrative staff to review and improve the STNA program curriculum.
- Stay updated on state regulations and ensure the program meets certification standards.
- Participate in the accreditation process and help maintain the quality of educational offerings.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and institutional policies, including OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and clinical hours.
- Promote a safe learning environment for both students and patients.
Education:
- Degree in Nursing or an Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) with equivalent experience.
- Current and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Completion of an approved Train-the-Trainer course for STNA instruction (varies by state).
- BLS/CPR certification (Basic Life Support).
Experience:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in clinical nursing, preferably in long-term care, acute care, or skilled nursing facilities.
- Previous teaching or instructional experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of the STNA or CNA certification process and exam requirements.
