Requirements
- Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program or technical college course
- Registration or certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Current RCP license in the state of practice
- Experience in respiratory care jobs, emergency care, or intensive care preferred
- Valid driver’s license and auto insurance
- Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Strong knowledge of pulmonary function, pulmonary rehabilitation, and respiratory equipment
- Monitor patient physiological responses, including arterial blood gases, lung function changes, and vital signs
- Assist physicians in managing patient care and performing medical procedures
- Set up and operate respiratory therapy devices such as ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, and aerosol generators
- Provide emergency care, including CPR and artificial respiration, when required
- Maintain and clean respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
- Educate patients and families on respiratory care plans and treatment procedures
- Document and maintain accurate patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations
- Travel to patient locations as needed for respiratory therapist employment opportunities
