The Packaging Automation Specialist works under the direction of the location / region President, delivering technical expertise, consultative support, and a deep understanding of the packaging process. This role involves regular field sales visits alongside the sales team to help achieve revenue and GP$ objectives, with an emphasis on equipment, parts, and services. The Specialist partners with the sales team, customers, and equipment manufacturers to create innovative packaging automation solutions, while also promoting the company's offerings to drive profitable growth and cultivate lasting customer relationships.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Provide technical expertise and consultative support to sales representatives to drive the achievement of packaging equipment revenue and GP$ targets for the location / region.
Conduct regular field sales visits with sales reps to identify and address opportunities for equipment automation, redesign, and process improvements.
Prepare and respond to requests for proposals (RFPs), delivering technical presentations that outline new equipment, upgrades, line layouts, recommended modifications, and preventative maintenance services to customers and prospects.
Develop and maintain a current pipeline of project opportunities, tracking progress and follow-ups.
Promote the sale of consumables and preventative maintenance agreements as part of every equipment proposal.
Design and modify equipment configurations to meet specific customer requirements and operational needs.
Coordinate product demonstrations or trial installations to showcase equipment capabilities to prospective customers.
Prepare service contracts and preventative maintenance agreements tailored to customer needs.
Review and approve all equipment quotes from sales reps, ensuring alignment with the approved vendor list and company standards.
Facilitate customer training for new equipment installations, upgrades, and retrofits to ensure successful adoption and long-term performance.
Education / Experience Requirements :
High School diploma or GED required
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing setting with a solid understanding of mechanical packaging processes
Previous success in SELLING packaging automation equipment is preferred
Six Sigma certification and familiarity with LEAN Manufacturing principles and 5S are a plus
Proven ability to analyze manufacturing and distribution environments to assess packaging needs
Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate with customers to solve problems and influence decision-making
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong time management, qualification, and negotiation abilities
