Job Description
At Veranova, a company committed to EHS excellence, the Industrial Hygienist will lead and manage the Industrial Hygiene (IH) program at our West Deptford, New Jersey site. This role will be pivotal in revitalizing our occupational health (industrial hygiene) program, leading our site ergonomic team, and providing EHS support to the three laboratory groups on site. With a strong focus on driving tasks to completion, you’ll manage multiple priorities while influencing both peers and site management. This position offers a unique opportunity to work cross-functionally, blending expertise in Industrial Hygiene and General Safety disciplines to foster a culture of safety and regulatory excellence at the site and global levels.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Lead, manage, and continuously improve the site’s Industrial Hygiene (IH) program to ensure the health and safety of employees working in the manufacturing and laboratory environment.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify and characterize hazards associated with potent compounds, hazardous chemicals and materials, ensuring proper control measures are in place to minimize exposure.
- Develop and execute an Industrial Hygiene monitoring plan based on regulatory requirements and risk assessments. This will include performing exposure monitoring of hazardous substances and physical hazards (i.e. noise, temperatures) to assess workplace exposures and ensure compliance with exposure limits (e.g., OELs, PELs, TLVs).
- Evaluate and recommend engineering and administrative controls, as well as PPE, to minimize exposure risks related to hazardous materials and physical hazards in the production and laboratory environments.
- Analyze exposure monitoring data, interpret results, and generate clear, actionable reports. Provide regular updates and recommendations to management on trends and potential areas for improvement.
- Lead the ergonomics program for the site and work with personnel in all areas to conduct assessment and implement solutions to ergonomic hazards.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, quality control, and safety teams to integrate effective IH practices and exposure controls into all stages of the manufacturing process. Collaborate with Occupational Health personnel from across Veranova to develop and implement Global standards.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and Veranova policies regarding industrial hygiene practices, including OSHA, EPA, and other applicable standards. Prepare for and support regulatory inspections and audits.
- Develop and deliver training programs on industrial hygiene topics, including safe handling of potent compounds, exposure monitoring procedures, proper PPE usage, and ergonomics.
- Lead the selection, evaluation, and proper use of PPE for employees working with potent compounds, flammable, and toxic materials ensuring all staff are equipped with the necessary safety equipment and are trained in its use.
- Drive the ongoing improvement of industrial hygiene practices through the introduction of new technologies, methodologies, and industry best practices to enhance worker safety and operational efficiency.
