Role Overview: 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Compliance and Quality Systems Specialist to join our team on a permanent basis. This position provides technical leadership to the Edinburgh site’s Compliance and Quality Systems function which forms part of the wider Quality Assurance team. Their primary role is to ensure compliance with the applicable regulations and current expectations of external parties including but not limited to regulatory authorities and customers. Also included is operating and maintaining the QMS and all processes therein to ensure that it remains suitable, adequate and effective as measured against all determined quality plans and objectives (e.g. inspection readiness and data integrity programs) and operational key performance indicators. 

The Principal Compliance & Quality Systems Specialist partners with other operating sites through Veranova’s Global Quality Organization for the overall enhancement and harmonization of the Global QMS. The role incorporates the coaching of department staff with respect to Compliance and Quality issues ensuring that a state of compliance is established and maintained. The job holder will act as a Subject Matter Expert for Products, Processes and their application and may be expected to act as a designate for the Compliance & Quality Systems Manager. 

This role has a strong customer focus with the job holder required to routinely liaise with key staff from other functional areas i.e. Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Control and Supply Chain to resolve / manage conflicting priorities. This will extend to external parties including customers, suppliers and regulators particularly with respect to external audit programmes.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Recognised expert in Quality Systems and Compliance with depth and breadth of experience in Veranova’s processes, products and their application. 
    • Understands business processes / products and needs of internal / external customers and looks to align service provided with these. 
    • Identify and drive improvement projects within the team to ensure continued and improved delivery of these. 
  • Makes decisions and solves complex problems through taking a wider view including business (policies, procedure and plan) and technical input (applying skills, learnings and experience) to identify solutions meeting needs of both internal and external customers. 
    • Participates in review, interpretation, approval and reporting of data trends originating from group operations and Key Performance Indicators as well as identify necessary actions arising from these. 
    • Drives process to determine root cause of recorded failures. 
    • Provide active support to wider Quality Management System processes, including but not limited to Change Management, Self Inspection Program and Product Quality Review. 
  • Acts as a coach to support training and development of team members within a learning environment 
  • Interprets outputs of group operations as well as any practical-based training to increase understanding and knowledge across business. 
  • Collaborates across business and project groups and business units to ensure consistency of performance and to drive up knowledge of business operation, products, systems and processes. 
  • Interprets internal or external issues and recommends solutions / best practices as input on resource planning and plan, policy, procedure, protocol and report development 
    • Ensures that these align with accepted industry best practice, validation principles and all applicable regulatory standards and / or guidelines. 
  • Conducts all duties in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Documentation Practice (GDP) and appropriate regulatory requirements including statutory Health & Safety legislation and internal practice.
  • Performs any other duties as reasonably requested from the Company from time to time.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Leadership / management skills and experience, at a senior level, in a GMP environment.
  • A degree in a Chemistry related subject.
  • Ability to translate site strategic goals to practical plans for site activities.
  • Experience in process technologies used on site and in processing / manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API).
  • Track record of design, establishment and implementing Quality Management System polices and procedures to establish and maintain a state of compliance.
  • Leadership skills, vision, good judgement, resilience, drive to succeed.
  • Strong planning / organisational skills and focus on delivery (including budget management).
  • Ability to motivate self and others (managed and non-managed)

  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and the ability to forge strong and effective working relationships.
