Key Responsibilities
Verdox seeks an Electrochemist to join our R&D team. This position reports to the Sr. Electrochemist Supervisor II.
Primary responsibilities
- Independently design and execute chemical and electrochemical experiments to understand chemical reactivity in a redox-flow cell device.
- Evaluate stability and reactivity of electrochemically-active small molecules via spectroscopy (IR, UV-vis, etc.), spectroelectrochemistry, and electrochemical techniques.
- Characterize molecules and their degradation products to elucidate chemical degradation pathways, including corrosion or the decomposition of active materials and electrolytes
- Test and characterize behavior of electrochemical cells – potentiostatic/galvanostatic charge-discharge, energy storage device techniques
- Collaborate with the R&D team to actively guide the design of electrochemical systems (redox active molecule, electrolyte composition, and cell materials) to obtain high CO2-capture performance and maximize device longevity
- Perform quantitative analyses of experimental data and communicate results to cross-functional teams via both written and verbal presentations
The candidate must have the following required qualifications:
- PhD in Chemistry or related field with focus on molecular and analytical electrochemistry, electrochemical energy storage, and electron transfer kinetics
- Strong understanding of physical organic chemistry theory
- Hands-on experience in electrochemical characterization of organic molecules, with preference to candidates with additional experience in polymers and chemically modified electrode surfaces
- Proficiency in performing quantitative analysis using MATLAB/Python (or equivalent)
- Familiarity with both aqueous and organic electrolyte solutions
- Experience in assembling and testing electrochemical cells such as energy storage devices (pseudocapacitors, batteries, etc.), flow cells, or fuel cells
- Experience using ChemDraw, Excel, and DigiElch (or equivalent)
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Comfortable working in an evolutionary and dynamic startup environment
We believe in taking care of our team so they can do their best work. Here’s what you can expect when you join us:
