Job Description – Director of Nursing Department: Nursing
Direct Report to: Executive Director
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for directing the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care & services to clients within Vered at San Gabriel.
SCOPE:
The Director of Nursing, under the direction of the Executive Director, is responsible for maintaining operations of the Nursing Service Department to ensure that the highest degree of quality client care is always maintained in accordance with State and Federal Regulations, facility policies & procedures, and client directives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Graduate of an accredited school for professional nurses and licensed in good standing in the state where work will be performed.
· Valid RN license
· At least 2 years prior experience as an RN preferably with hospital and behavioral health experience
· At least one year of supervision experience in the nursing field.
· Certified BLS provider.
· Satisfactory Drug test and background check.
· Satisfactory personal & professional references.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Meets budget expectations
· Assessing, responding and documenting Suicide Risks
· Responsible for nursing staff activities on all shifts including weekends (if applicable)
· Recruits and interviews with potential new hires (if applicable)
· Orders nursing and medical supplies
· Approves time and payroll records for nursing department (if applicable)
· Works RN/LPN staff positions as needed
· Schedules for employees and monitors labor hours and overtime (if applicable)
· Initiates and oversees department performance improvement activities (if applicable)
· Responsible for infection control surveillance and responding to variances
· Provides department specific training and education
· New Hire orientation, and introduction of the clinical department for all new staff.
· Adheres to TXHHSC Life and Safety considerations
· Adheres to Joint Commission Requirements
· Provides initial screening for potential client admission as needed
· Audits the EMR for all clients to ensure timely and accurate nursing/medical documentation
· Reports on safety hazards to Executive Director
· Works with licensed practitioners to reconcile client medications along the continuum
· Works with pharmacy provider when client medications cannot be filled due to loss, theft, or insurance lapses prior to admission.
· Enlists the help of nursing staff (if applicable) or the Executive Director when medication errors or near misses occur employing a root cause analysis.
· Performs appropriate hand hygiene throughout the shift
· Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately
· Maintaining medical supplies and stock medications monthly via Vered pharmacy of choice and/or other approved vendors.
· Leading infection control and antibiotic tracking and monitoring, administration of flu vaccines to staff and clients, random handwashing audits, monitoring client isolation/quarantine.
· Ordering, drawing, and receiving labs as ordered by the licensed providers. Reporting critical labs to the provider and entering required documentation into the e-chart.
As this is not an all-inclusive list. Other duties may be assigned as required by Patient and Facility needs.
