Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, and test low voltage cabling systems, including CAT5, CAT6, and fiber optic cables, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
- Maintain and troubleshoot cabling systems for voice and data networks, identifying and resolving issues efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Conduct network installations, including the setup of Cisco routers and other networking equipment as needed.
- Utilize tools such as cable testers, certification testers, fusion splicers, voltmeters, and ohmmeters to test and verify cable integrity.
- Assist with the layout and installation of low voltage cabling systems, ensuring adherence to building codes and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, electricians, and team members to plan and schedule work, completing projects on time and within budget.
- Document all work performed, including materials used, labor hours, service reports, and installation details.
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding their network needs.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations at all times, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Structured Cabling Technician or in a similar role within the telecommunications or commercial low voltage industry.
- Strong knowledge of low voltage cabling systems (e.g., CAT5, CAT6, fiber optic) and computer networking principles, including Ethernet technology.
- Familiarity with cabling standards and practices, including installation techniques for various types of cabling (e.g., fiber optic, coaxial).
- Proficiency in using testing equipment such as cable testers, certification testers, fusion splicers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, and network analyzers.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently in the field while managing time effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Upon meeting eligibility criteria, Verigent offers the following benefits:
