What are the responsibilities and job description for the Virtualization Engineer position at Verisign?
We are looking for a Virtualization Engineer to join Verisign’s Corporate Operations team responsible for building, managing, maintaining and scaling virtual infrastructure on which our mission-critical services are deployed or depend. Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and support all aspects of VMware and Oracle KVM virtualization platforms
- Monitor and maintain the virtual environment’s health, performance, and capacity to ensure optimal operation and availability
- Strong scripting experience using Ansible, Python, and Shell to automate for consistency, efficiency and repetitive tasks
- Performs daily operations support functions in a 24x7 environment - including system deployments, patching, installation, configuration, maintenance, problem isolation and resolution within production, QA and development environments; environments include physical servers, virtualization, operating systems, and automation tools
- Documentation of processes, procedures, configurations, and deployment plans
- Provide incident response and root cause/mitigation to include security vulnerabilities, performance degradation and system outage analysis
- Participates in team on-call rotation and planned weekend activities

The candidate must have:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- 8 years of operations administration experience managing mission-critical systems
- Professional experience with Red Hat Linux system administration in a production environment highly preferred
- Critical thinker with problem solving aptitude and thrives for implementing process improvements
- Proficient with automation- Not just developing automation, but knowing why we automate and what to automate
- Strong written and verbal communication skills – able to clearly and succinctly describe complex issues
- Familiarity with networking protocols, system monitoring and performance tools
This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule
The pay range is $120,500 - $163,100.
The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
